Today we visit Pergamum. The ruins lie
to the north and west of the modern city of Bergama. Pergamum was the capital
city of the province. It had a great library of 200,00 volumes. The Acropolis was built on a hill and there
were many temples including one to Asceleplos the god of healing.

The ‘throne of Satan’ in Revelation 2:13 is thought to be
the great altar to Zeus, but others think it might be the whole hill with the
temples in contrast to ‘the mountain of the Lord’.

I arrived there in the late afternoon in the gathering
gloom. The hill looms over the town and
in the gathering gloom it took on quite a menacing appearance. I was travelling with a group and we sang a
hymn overlooking the Altar to Zeus – a local stray cat joined in with
howling! As we walked amongst the ruins
in the twilight we saw trees which had been dressed with tissue paper by
tourists.

Challenge
Use a paper serviette as part of your page.
Paper serviettes are usually 3 ply. Remove the top layer carefully and tear round
the image you want to use. Spread gel
medium or pva glue thinly on your page and carefully smooth your serviette
image onto the page. Put another thin
layer of glue over the top.
